Travel Recommendations And Advice
Here's some recommendations and advice to help you find that perfect cheap flight or holiday:
Tips on finding cheap flights:
Everyone is always looking for a bargain, so what's the best way of finding a bargain
on your flight?
- Book months in advance if you are flying to a popular destination, only hold on
for a last minute bargain if you can afford to change the dates or times you fly
on.
- Consider alternate airports, as flights from regional airports are often under booked.
- Generally for holiday destinations, flights during the week are cheap, where as for business destinations flights are cheaper
at the weekend (supply and demand)
- If you can fly overnight or very early in the morning you can often save quite a
bit.
- Consider more connecting flights if you can rather than the more expensive direct
flights.
- Consider the national airlines of the country you are flying to.
Some destinations we can recommend for your holiday:
Beach Destinations:
- Spain - A traditional sandy sunny beach holiday destination, along with it's sun drenched Balearic islands it has everything you need. Though it can be somewhat crowded during the peak seasons.
- The Greek Islands - Mediterranean sea destinations, with a good selection of sun, sea, sand, food and culture to offer.
- Canary Islands - A constant warm sub-tropical climate for most of the year, with well developed beach side resorts.
- Turkey - A combination of modern Europe and Asia makes for a holiday with a sunny beach side holiday with a difference.
- Bulgaria - The black sea resorts with their golden sands, offer a nearby holiday destination at a low cost.
- Caribbean - Expensive but the most luxurious, isolated, tropical holiday destinations
- Egypt - A perfect destination for early summer and winter sun, with the well developed resort of Sharm El Sheikh being a perfect destination for it's sandy beaches and excellent diving holidays.
Culture & Out of the Way Destinations:
- Italy - With Venice amongst its cities, if you fancy a city holiday
with a difference then this is for you.
- Russia - With St Petersburg on offer there is plenty to see, from
its museums to its metro, or if you are prepared to travel a bit then you will
be amazed by the vast expanses and differences across this vast country.
- Egypt - With all it's pyramids, pharoh's tombs, relics and Nile
cruises Egypt is a must see.
- France - With it's traditional Parisian cafe culture and romantic air it's hard to beat Paris perfect for a weekend getaway.
Tips on finding cheap holidays:
To start with there are two options, you can plan ahead by two or three months if you have a definite holiday destination in mind. Or if you can be more flexible and are willing to consider numerous holiday
destinations then you can take a chance and wait for a last minute deal.
Often travel agencies and airlines will have oversubscribed on less popular destinations or flights particularly during off peak seasons and they may well be trying to offload surplus flights and holidays giving you a chance to
grab yourself a bargain.
Generally the longer your holiday is the cheaper
it is on a per day basis. There are two reasons for this, hotels prefer longer bookings
and so will often offer considerable discounts and reduced rates for longer stays.
In addition the cost of your flight (the largest factor) is spread out over more
days meaning you get more holiday for your money.
Consider the less well established holiday destinations, although less developed
you will probably get a cheaper more peaceful holiday.
Often you will be able to pay less for excursions
and sightseeing trips locally on holiday than through your package holiday supplier
(often by a factor of two or three).
Finally room only board is often a false economy as most of the time you are liable to be eating at the hotel anyway, and you will pay a lot more for your meals if you haven't paid in front.
An Important Hint:
- Check if you need a visa for where you are going as soon as possible, the embassy's website of the country you are visiting is a good place to start or the FCO. Otherwise
your holiday or flight may never begin.
