Some Tips for hiring a car
- Check the dates and times of your booking on the supplier’s website carefully, and that everything you need is supplied
- Make sure to read the terms and conditions carefully of the rental agreement
- If you are collecting the car at the airport after your flight, make sure that the rental company will make allowances for delayed flights.
- You may not be given the exact car you requested. Check that if an alternative car is supplied it will be at least a similar or more expensive model.
- Check how much fuel is in the car before you drive off, if you are supposed to return with a full tank, make sure you start with a full tank.
- Check your insurance covers you for everywhere you plan on driving (particularly if you are going off road) and make sure you are aware of any excess you might be liable for. Consider top up insurance.
- When you obtain a receipt make sure the accompanying paperwork states exactly what you have paid for, e.g. insurance type, any local taxes, etc.
- Check the car when you collect it for any damage or you may be liable later on.
- If you have children, don’t forgot to request children’s seats.
- Keep the car hire companies contact details with you in the case of breakdowns, or other emergencies.
- Check where and when you need to return the car when you pick it up. Don’t return the car late, as most companies will charge a full 24 hours rental for a late return.
- After the rental check that no unauthorized charges have been billed to your card, if you find any request an explanation from the rental company/broker and keep any correspondence.
- Enjoy Your Rental.
